What we've been up to . . .

Okay, so I just up and decided to blog today. Nothing special, but it needs done. This might be my only post this entire summer, but, I don't care, at least it is one! Aaaaand, I have been really bad about taking pictures this summer. Several times I thought about taking my camera, but decided to just enjoy the moment instead of worrying about taking pics. So here is a simple list of a few of the goings-on at our house in the past couple of months:

~ Katie got glasses at the end of school. We had realized (thanks to another class mom) that she needed them but wanted to wait until school was out in order to minimize the adjustment phase. Once she realized how much better she could see, she hasn't complained once about wearing them!

~ We all went to see Toy Story 3 in 3D on opening weekend! Wow, what a treat! (We used Chad's birthday money - thank you, Chad!) Annie and I ran in the lobby some in the middle, but everyone else loved it. Ben has to watch it without the 3D glasses - a little too scary for him with them on.

~ After being encouraged by a friend, I started a couch to 5K running program and have been really enjoying it. I ran my first 5K a couple weeks ago, and it felt good to accomplish a set goal. I guess I don't really do that very much anymore (set large goals, that is). Anyhow, I am sticking with it, exercising more than I have in at least a couple of years, and feeling much better overall.

~ We packed up one Friday and drove to WaterWays in Boone county for an afternoon of water fun! And oh, it was such fun! Interesting mix of people, but we really enjoyed the slides and pools and lazy river and, even, putt-putt! After, we stopped at Fazoli's for dinner and then used a gift card to treat ourselves to some Maggie Moo ice cream!

~ Ben has struggled with some separation anxiety this summer. It is worst when I leave in the evenings, usually for work. I stopped running in the evenings because it upset him so much. Then it began to flare up anytime anyone in the house left for nearly any reason (unless we went together). It is getting better - actually, it is much better than it was - but he still prefers that we all be together all the time!! (:

~ Annie, lovingly dubbed Sweet and Spicy, is becoming much more sweet in recent weeks. She does not lack in the personality department, that's for sure! She jabbers all the time, reads to herself, plays with her bebee (baby), and has a shoe fetish that I just don't understand! She is learning to sleep in a big bed, and she knows when she has went "potty" in her diaper (we may be capitalizing on this soon)!

~ Aaron has filled his summer with friends, sleepovers, Wii, books (mostly Star Wars), and more friends. He plays great with Ben most of the time, but sometimes Ben just grates on his nerves - mostly when Aaron wants to be 8 and Ben acts like a 3 year old. Understandable. Aaron will be going to bible camp next week - the first time he's been away from us (me) for a week. I think he will love camp, but I wonder how I will do.

Our Anniversary

Chad and I celebrated 11 years together on May 22. We drove out to Louisville, KY on Friday afternoon where we checked into the Dupont Mansion, a very nice B & B just south of downtown. It was a beautiful old house, and the innkeepers kept it stocked with a fridge full of drinks and counter full of snacks and homemade cookies.

We had dinner at a Bistro on Main Street and then walked across the street to see Wicked! Oh, it was so wonderful!! Just absolutely wonderful! I have been wanting to see it for about a year and would gladly see it again (if I didn't have to pay for it)! Unfortunately, the best seats we could afford were the worst seats in the house (very top row) and we didn't realize they had binoculars for rent!! My eyes hurt from straining, but the music made up for it!

After a breakfast of Belgian waffles, eggs, bacon, and fruit, we spent a little time visiting the Kentucky Derby Museum. I wasn't sure I wanted to go as I am not really into fancy hats and horse racing, but it turned out to be quite interesting and I added a few wrinkles to my brain (as Chad would say).

After that, we just drove back home. It was a short trip, but very nice. We had plenty of driving time with uninterrupted conversation and a few meals we enjoyed without someone on our lap.

Here's to many more anniversaries together!

Pillow Fight

I heard them first.

They started out jumping on my bed. Then the covers went into the floor. The pillows were exposed. And the wrestling started. They were having a lot of fun together, so I wanted a few pictures. But then it just really looked like fun, so I put down the camera and grabbed a pillow. Chad heard the laughing and came to investigate. Of course, who can resist a good pillow fight? We were all in it then!

We didn't let it drag on too long, though, because too much fun usually results in an injury at our house!

Aaaah, good times!
